Peter Mould

Peter Mould was born in the English Midlands prior to the outbreak of World War Ⅱ in Europe. He was educated, with difficulty, in the British primary and grammar school system. After failing to gain access to university he entered industry in Coventry, England. After four years he found a new interest in learning which took the “late bloomer” to Battersea College of Advanced Technology, London (now University of Surrey) where he earned an advanced degree in Metallurgy.

He emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1965 and conducted R & D on automotive steels at various academic and industrial institutions including his own consulting business. He retired in 2021 after 60 years in the metallurgical field.

Mould has three daughters and six pride-giving grandchildren. He lives in Brighton, MI where he putters with his artwork, and revels in the vagaries of nature, albeit in his small back garden. During retirement, Peter completed a series of paintings called “Metallurgy Under the Microscope.”  These works were inspired by the beauty he saw in the phase structures of the metals, alloys and mixtures that he worked with during his long career.  To view these paintings, click HERE

Mould co-authored a technical book (Recrystallization and Grain Growth in Metals, Surrey University Press) in 1976. “The Rainbow Walkers” is his first, and last, non-technical book.

While readying the manuscript of TheRainbow Walkers for publication in late 2022 Mould was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Now he observes the funeral arrangements board of the local funeral home with foreboding interest, and muses as to why there is no Coming-Soon announcement board.
